Kettering Show

The gorgeous, the charm filled, the ironless Holiday Inn Express.... It wasn't so bad really made with business people in mind, and most of the exhibitors that were at the show were also staying there. I did meet a sweet little girl named Lauryn who introduced herself to me with "I'm not lost, my mummy knows where I am" She was extremely cute and funny and asked me if she should go ask her mother if she could stay with me. There is just something so gorgeous about little kids with a british accent, I love it.

Cambridge Friday the 1st October

On our way north to Kettering we decided to stop and have a look around the renowned city of Cambridge. The weather was unfortunatley quite crap so that bought the experience down a little but the town was still obviously quite lovely. The massive and historical university, the quaint cobble stone streets lined with lovely shops and the pretty river filled with Punter boats was great to see and I would love to go again on a clear day.
At The Punter pub in Cambridge where we had the delicious £5 lunch.

It was a tad cold and dark in our little nook so we lit the candles, Seema thought this would make a nice photo. It was quite cosy, I was very happy with my first English pub experience.

The main University Building....in the drizzle.

We briefly escaped the wind and rain inside this amazing old church.

Lee showing us how small people a few hundred years ago must have been!

The fudge maker, not used to getting his photo taken I think. Mmm mmm this fudge was smooth, creamy and scrumptious we had to get some.

I love the colour of the grass in England it is just so intensely green, I also love this photo.

One of the things that is hard to get used to is how close the building are to the street. Then the roads are so narrow that you can't walk near the edge of the path or a passing car might side swipe you. Things were pretty calm in Cambridge compared to London though.

The sign says it all

The Punter boats, not too popular on days like this but it would be lovely on a fine day to go for a ride down the River Cam.

More from Thursday 1st October Exploring London

After leaving the museum we walked to Camden markets, where we saw some good and some bad street performers. There was lots to look at and I could have spent a whole day there I think. After that we walked toward the river and crossed over to the South Bank where we met up with John the other Courington.
Ruth and I on one of the many London bridges over the Thames with the London eye and Big Ben in the background, how cool is that!

John, Ruth and Lee at the South Bank with the Tate modern in the background.

Ruth, me and John with Saint Pauls Cathedral behind us, the weather was terrific which made a beautiful evening. But I was so tired after walking for 6 hours we got on the bus soon after this.

St Pauls, my photo's do not do it justice.

Kettering Show

We arrived safely in Kettering yesterday afternoon after some small navigation issues. Lee drove like a champion despite being a little nervous. We stopped in Cambridge on the way and had lunch in a great old pub called The Punter. We had the £5 lunch special which was smoked haddock on baby potatoes with buk choy, it was delicous. I am loving English food so far. It was unfortunatley raining and blowing quite alot so we didn't see Cambridge at it's best. Photo's to follow.
The hotel in new and lacking character but it is clean and comfortable. We had the small dilema upon arrival where we discovered that they had not one working iron in the whole place! Lee went and had a heart to heart with one of the employees and managed to convince him that getting us an iron was the most important thing that he would ever do in his life. So he, his name was Seb accepted his mission and went forth to procure us that iron. We got the iron and now look very smart in our unwrinkled shirts. The internet however was not working so we are not able to do much work at the hotel. Lee had us in hysterics over his answers to the hotel guest survey. It went something like this: What could be improved on in this hotel - Get an iron. Would you come stay with us again - If you got an iron. Quite funny we thought...or were we just overtired??
So it is the morning of the first show and the doors will open to eager emmigrants in about half an hour....wish us luck!

Thursday 30th September - An afternoon in London town

Thursday we woke up to a beautiful crisp sunny day and after getting some work done we went out to explore some of the city with the lovely Ruth as our tour guide.
This is the flat where Lee lived with Danielle when they still lived here in Stoke Newington, London. Look any different Kate?

Ruth and Lee in front of the British Museum, it is such a huge building.
Can't remember the detials about where and when this was from but it's very very old, wouldn't you know! I thought it one of the most beautiful pieces in the museum. It said that they think perhaps the hole in his chest might have come from when Napoleon tried to remove it.

Big ancient turkish temple and me!

I'm not sure what the story is but there is an awful lot of statues of men in the buff and all of the willies have been removed! I like the detail on this one.

I love the big horse, I wish it was still whole details of this piece below.

Boobies!

This sight caught my creative eye.

Me just before I nearly fell down the marble staicase because I was looking at my camera not where I was going. Phew we all nearly had a heart attack.

Tuesday the 28th - My first day in London

We arrived at Heathrow at about 6am local time so it was still dark and it was also covered by a think layer of fog so we didn't see anything till we were nearly on the ground. Didn't take too long through customs, didn't see anyone famous....very dissapointing! We then started our journey on the tube to the Courington abode. I got my first glimpses of London out the windows and then we where mobbed by morning commuters off to work. It was quite squishy but funny how everyone behaves as though they are not on top of one another. Then the rocking of the train had me resting my head on the glass which promptly began to slide down the glass as I dosed off, jerking me awake. So we were happy to arrive at our destination and have our travels over for a while.

Ruth, Lee and Me, Lee was so tired he couldn't even open his eyes for the photo! After making us some tea and me blearily doing some work, Ruth took us for a walk through the park and find somewhere to have lunch. Everything is so green and beautiful in the parks, I love it.

So pretty

Lee thougth it was funny that I wanted a phot of this, but it's so iconic I just had too!

Burj Khalifa

The view from the observation deck on the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa, the highest building in the world. Not sure how many floors it has but it is 818mtrs high. The elevator is also the fastest in the world and only took about one and a half minutes to get to the observation area. Looking out of the glass at this height made me a little woosy.

This pic shows the comparison when the skyscraper was still being made -
